The Michael E. Yancey Sphinx-man Scholarship
In memory and honor of Michael Yancey, BS Mass Communications '93, a new diversity-focused endowment titled, “The Michael E. Yancey Sphinx-man Scholarship Fund” has been established. This fund currently awards an annual $1,000 scholarship with preference given to African American and Native American applicants.

Michael, a pioneer in helping launch SIUE’s Alumni Ambassador program, voluntarily attended college fairs and recruited students for the University he loved.
As an active leader with the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., his passion was to help those who are less fortunate to achieve higher social, economic and intellectual goals.
Michael held a special place in his heart for students with average grades. Like him, we understand that GPAs do not measure a person’s leadership ability or an individual’s success. That’s why his new scholarship supports the needs of a first-generation student enrolled in their 2nd year at SIUE with a GPA between 2.4 and 2.9.

At SIUE, many of our first-generation students need financial assistance to help them complete their educational goals. Your gift will help us increase award amounts and the number of scholarships available.
